Have eatten here several times and the food is good, but there are better options for Mexican food in the area. The service has been slow everytime I have been there, even when the place was empty. It's not a bad place to get decent Mexican food, but it wouldn't be my 1st choice.

The best Mexican restaurant in town!!! Food is awesome. Service is excellent!!!!!! Simply the best.!!!!!!

My friend and I tried this place for the first time today. Both of us are very familiar with Mexican food. I ordered a ceviche tostada which was, oddly, made with tiny bay shrimp rather than diced prawns. The shrimp looked precooked and not marinated with the other ingredients. It was not close to real ceviche and was terrible. Some of the shrimp had freezer burn on them. It was served to me at room temperature. I could not eat it. Both of us were very hungry and focused more on the beans and rice to get full. The black beans we ordered seemed to have come directly out of a can and were flavorless. My friend's fajitas included a large piece of gristle. When our server came to clear our plates, she did not bother to ask if anything was wrong with the tostada that had barely been touched. We thought she had seemed to avoid coming to our table once she had observed the uneaten food item and may be tired of complaints about the food. This was poor quality food and questionable service.

First of all let me just say. I have never just got up and just left a restaurant because of poor service until today. It started out with being seated and one of the servers took our menus from the hostess and gave them to another group of people and told her to go get more menus for us. Then after waiting for 20 minutes for someone to at least ask us about drinks we decided they were not concerned about our business and we left. I will never step foot in there again

This place keeps getting worse every time we have gone here lately. We went here the other evening and there were 2 other tables with 3 people at them. It took us 20 minutes to get our order taken. The service here is very slow ! They never come back to check on you. The carne asada is horrible !! It was so tough and chewy . It was very low quality for the price we paid. After we ate we had to wait another 30 minutes for the check . No one was in site . They were all hanging out in the kitchen. I will not be going back and it is sad because it used to be my favorite place ..

A while back I had written this place off as unauthentic and disappointing. Tonight we ended up in here on a whim, and let me just say, thank god we did!!! Our waitress was awesome, she was super friendly and attentive! The bus boy and girl were also incredibly sweet. Our chips were never empty, and our water/sodas were promptly filled before they reached the halfway mark. I ordered the chimichanga combination with a taco with shredded chicken, there was so much chicken in it, it was too big for me to finish. And the chicken was moist and fresh, not dry at all. My husband ordered the Camarones Monterey (a newer dish) which was six big huge shrimp, wrapped in bacon and covered in cheese all served in a bed of rice, beans, pico de gallo, and slaw. It was AWESOME! Could I have a do over, I would totally order that instead, it was fantastic. My husband mentioned that the food this time was amazing, and we were told they just got a new cook/chef. He added new things to the menu and has totally flipped my opinion of this place 360 degrees. LOVED IT!!!

This is a typical americanized mexican food joint. Not authentic at all. We were seated right away and waited 35 minutes to take our order. I ordered the california quesadilla with chorizo. It came with eggs mixed in the chorizo! The chips were stail. Very slow service. Overall it was a huge let down.

I phoned in an order for a carnitas burrito to go. I specified no cilantro, and was told this was not a problem. When I got home with my burrito I discovered it had been covered with pico de gallo, which was loaded with cilantro. Totally unacceptable. When I called to complain they acknowledged the error but were obviously not concerned about it. Very poor customer service.

A few years ago we used to go all the time. Then something happened and it wasn't what we remembered. Poor service, awful tasting food. The atmosphere was dull. NOT ANY MORE! The new owners have revived it to where it used to be. Fabulous! Great teamwork. Awesome food. Thank you. We will be back and will recommend you to everyone.

Massive portions, yes, I mean totally massive. We made the mistake of starting out our meal with a nachos appetizer, and it really put me over the top. I was happy to find Camarones a la diabla on their menu. Haven't seen that since my favorite Portland Mexican place closed years ago. It was decent, but a little more tomato forward than the recipe I was accustomed to at my old haunt. It's nice how the free chips come with a little plate of beans, and a massive bowl of salsa. They have very fast, friendly service, and I hope that they continue to do well in Coos Bay.

I met a couple girl friends here for dinner. The inside of the restaurant was clean and nice. Being from California I have had my share of good Mexican food, and was excited to see what the had to offer. What a disappoint . I ordered a beef taco and beef enchilada basic right? When the plate came what a let down. The taco shell was what you get at Taco Bell gross they don't even fry there own shells, and the meat tasted to much like cloves. El sol is still the best I have found so far. The service was good and friendly.

Though the food does not always settle as I'd like... still, the experience of this restaurant makes it a good choice for a return visit. You'll not find friendlier staff, better service, or a more spacious place to eat, visit, or work. I have been known to find a cozy booth, midday and just work. It's a great place to lose yourself in conversation, a good book, a project, or just a pretty good meal. Paco is awesome and makes us feel like family every time we show up. Being from Puerto Vallarta helps, since we share a love of that city in common. Lots to talk about... if you feel like visiting. But, if you're in the mood to be alone, or spend a quiet time with a friend or loved one... you can have it your way there too. Just DON'T suggest it's your birthday, or your guest's birthday, or you'll get the full onslaught of the Mexican version of "Happy Birthday" with a group that likely cannot sing, play an instrument, and may not have cleaned the Sombrero before placing it on your head for photo proof of your big day! Love the room, and it's brightly decorated! If you're planning an event, they have a very nice "back room" but it's extremely noisy. If it's about meeting to eat and be loud - you're in luck. If you're planning to conduct any business, I'd recommend taking your group elsewhere. This restaurant has been a nice addition to downtown Coos Bay for many, many years. The service remains excellent and the food is acceptable. Once you're recognized as a "regular" it's amazing how many specialty treats can show up at your table unexpected. If nothing else... enjoy the wonderful chips and array of dips (and the atmosphere). I think you'll love it!

Good food, good drinks, and nice atmosphere. This is also one of the few restaurants in Coos Bay that can handle a large group- pretty common for birthdays, etc. Recently noticed a change in the decor; new colorful chairs and the menu also looks a little different. Service is always good at Puerto Vallarta. I once had a vegetarian friend order a pork burrito (completely her own fault as it definitely said pork in the description and even the title), and upon telling the server she made a mistake, they immediately brought her a vegetarian version at no charge. That is great service. As an added bonus, you get free tequila poppers with every drink, the obligatory free chips and salsa, and free sopapillas with your bill! I like the chicken mole a lot, which you can get at any level of spiciness (I like things very spicy). Also really like the chicken burrito. No the tortillas are not made in house, but the tortilla chips are not from a bag, and I definitely appreciate that.

The restaurant smelled musty, and only two people were working outside the kitchen, so service was quite slow. I ordered the lamb special which was okay, and my companions orderd enchiladas, which were about as basic as you can get. The poblano peppers tasted like they were canned instead of fresh, and the enchiladas were covered in _chedder_ cheese. In short, a rather poor dining experience for Mexican food.

This place is definitely not La Herradura, (flavor not vibrant enough like the others said, I agree) - But I do like their refried beans partnered with the salsa/chips, over the spicy coleslaw that LH has. PV's Chicken Tortilla soup is good (though could be a bit spicier), and I love getting their rancho beans & rice for a very affordable take-out meal (it's technically a side dish, but like the soup, they give you a really generous amount). If you're having a party, this is TOTALLY the place to go! Their drinks kick freaking butt, (the Zombie... omg, two of those and watch out!) and the staff is very festive when you're having a celebration of any sort. If you have a birthday (gal especially.. lol), they'll be all over it, with (sometimes multiple!) on-the-house Tequilla Poppers generously dispersed by sombrero-wearin', birthday serenading, fiesta lovin' waiters who know how to celebrate. They'll even snap your pic as a souvenir. Just be sure to call a cab if you have drinks there. They're very tasty & strong. If you're bar hopping, it's a great place to kick off the night though since it's located downtown. You'll know that's no secret if you try to go there on New Year's Eve too... lol If I were judging on food alone, they'd get a 4, but since they really are top notch for parties, they get 5.

Yeah, it's mild Americanized Mexican food but it's GOOD Ameicanized Mexican food! On top of that they serve so much it comes out on a platter and there's enough to eat to choke a horse. The prices aren't cheap or expensive but you are getting a ton to eat and it's of a good quality. The caveat I have is that if you want highly spiced food that you go elsewhere. On the other hand if you want it mild, you found Heaven. Service is outstanding and the interior decor is quite tricked up too. My friends love this place and the chances are you will too!

The previous reviewer, Ebbers M. has this place pegged down. The only thing I'd change is the food rating. It's not very good once you get past the chips and 2 dips.

Middle of the road Mexican eatery. The fajitas I bought cast me 14 bucks. Normally, I am willing to 'eat' the extra cost since I am dining out in a restaurant, but these fajitas were not that good. The flavoring wasnt fajita-ish enough and the onions were a bit more carmalized than they should have been. It was a good portion though. And considering there were about 50 of us in our party, they got the food to us very quickly. Kudos to the kitchen staff for that. All in all, it was average. 3 stars.

The absolute worst Aroz Con Pollo I have ever had. The chicken and vegetables were floating in a sweet sauce. The sauce itself was so sweet it was nauseating. More like a sweet and sour mixed with gravy. The restaurant was empty at 7:00 pm with 1 other couple and myself. I asked about the guacamole side order and the guacamole Molcajete (if they were the same and made fresh) I was told they were the same and fresh made just different portions. This also was terrible. It was warm and had the texture of mayonnaise and avocado put in a blender until creamy. I would expect such from a fast food but not a side order at a restaurant for $4.00. When I told the waitress (she was not a server) she shrugged her shoulders and said "yes". Yes what, it was like she didn't understand that I was complaining. Them she brought my check. Not impressed. I travel a lot for work and therefore eat at many different restaurants. I try to choose someplace different each time I am in a town. This time I chose Puerto Vallarta, and left very sorry I did.

This place simply holds so many memories from high school. My friends and I would come here for birthdays, after prom and dances! Great food and beautiful restaurant! I remember how good the salsa was still and it has been many years! Highly recommend this place! ;)

Back in the mid 90's the place was THE BOMB. I would've gave it 10 stars. But in the past decade i've seen this place slowly go down hill. I used to get the Carne asada burrito. And even the last time I had it, it was good, but something about it was different. I couldn't put a finger on it, but it was missing something. The excitement and flare they used to have is no more. Only reason I would go back to here would be for Cinco de Mayo.

Acapulco chicken was poor. Adobe enchilada was good. Back room for groups was horribly lit, sterile, dank, and felt creepy. Waiters were overwhelmed and never did bring hot sauce
